TROOP TREATS ANNOUNCES OCT. 25 "MAKE A DIFFERENCE" EVENTS TO PACK 3,000 CARE PACKAGES FOR OUR SOLDIERS ABROAD

Troop Treats, the McLean-based nonprofit that ships thousands of care packages annually to US troops overseas, will hold its Fall 2014 care-package event on Oct. 25 in Falls Church, VA.

At the event, volunteers will pack 3,000 care packages containing thank-you as well as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and other needed toiletries for shipment to US Army and Navy troops and Marines in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, Africa and elsewhere.

Troop Treats is also seeking to raise $10,000 in tax-deductible donations immediately to make these events a success. Donations can be made through PayPal at www.trooptreats.com, on Troop Treats’ Facebook page using the “Fundrazr” feature, or by mail at Troop Treats, PO Box 3862, McLean, VA 22102.

“This is our 9th straight year of taking part in National Make a Difference Day, and we think it’s going to be our best one yet,” said Troop Treats President and Founder Germaine Broussard. “We’re expecting tremendous community support.”

Troop Treats’ “National Make a Difference Day” corporate sponsors are Macerich, one of the nation’s leading owners of shopping malls including Tyson’s Corner Center and the Fratkin Broussard Team of financial advisors at Morgan Stanley in McLean.

Volunteers are needed to pack care packages at this month’s event. The event on Oct. 26 will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the James Lee Community Center, 2855-A Annandale Road, Falls Church. To volunteer, register at ajimenez@trooptreats.com. Volunteers should arrive by 9:30 a.m. to check in.

Last year, Troop Treats volunteers packed a total of 30,000 care packages containing toiletries, snack foods, decks of cards and other gift items for US soldiers deployed worldwide, truly making a difference in their daily lives.
