English Discussion Group

Potomac Community Library has an English Discussion Group which meets in our Community Room. This is not a class but an opportunity to practice English in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.  Join others from all over the world as you sharpen your English skills. Drop-ins welcome; no registration required. 
Historical Fiction Book Discussion Group
Tuesday, July 9, 1 p.m.
This month’s selection is “Dovekeepers” by Alice Hoffman. A tale inspired by the tragic first-century massacre of hundreds of Jewish people at Masada presents the stories of a hated daughter, a baker’s wife, a girl disguised as a warrior, and a medicine woman who keep doves and secrets while Roman soldiers draw near. Please join us in our community room to discuss this month’s selection. Bag lunches are welcome. New participants are always welcome.
Blood Drive, Wednesday, July 10, 1-7 p.m.
The Red Cross will host a blood drive in the library’s community room Wednesday, July 10th from 1 to 7 p.m.  As always, there is a critical need for blood donors.  Please register to donate blood by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE in advance.  Drop-in donors will also be accepted.

This month’s selection is “The House of the Spirits” by Isabel Allende. The Trueba family embodies strong feelings from the beginning of the 20th Century through the assassination of Allende in 1973. Please join us in our community room to discuss this month’s selection. New participants are always welcome.
Third Thursday Thrillers Book Group
Thursday, July 18, 7 p.m.
This month’s selection is “Elvis and the Dearly Departed” by Peggy Webb. They say you can’t get to Heaven without passing through the Eternal Rest Funeral Home, and without passing muster with Elvis, a basset hound convinced he’s the reincarnation of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Callie Valentine Jones spends her days fixing up the hairdos of the dead, but when the corpse of local physican goes missing, Callie and her cousin Lovie (Eternal Rest’s resident wake caterer) go in hot pursuit of the recently embalmed, last seen bound for Vegas by way of downtown Tupelo. Please join us not only to discuss this mystery, but to enjoy tea and cookies.
