April 20 - Garden in a Pot!  Be inspired with fresh ideas for container gardening from Master Gardener Volunteer, Gisela Glodeck.  Discover the pleasures and pitfalls of growing plants in pots.  Plant choices, watering, potting mediums, and materials will be covered.  Great Soils, Great Harvest!  Build your soil for the most sustainable and bountiful results.

May 18 - A Time to Plant!  Join us for hands on lessons in our Teaching Garden Cooks’ Garden - direct seeding & transplanting seedlings will be covered.  Plant Sale too!  Give Your Garden a Facelift!  Spring Garden Renovation class – Join Master Gardener Volunteers as we discuss and demonstrate renovation of our Bee, Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden at the Teaching Garden.  *Master Gardener Plant Sale*

June 15 - Homegrown Herbs – growing, maintaining and using fragrant and delicious herbs with Master Gardeners Marilyn Spencer and Heidi Johnson.
Shade Savvy Plants – The Woodland Garden is featured in this class on the challenges and joys of growing plants in the shade. 

July 20 - Managing problems in Your Landscape – Join Master Gardener Volunteers at the Teaching Garden as they teach “lessons learned” in a few of our 25 garden beds.  Turf Alternatives – Want less grass to mow?  The class will include a discussion of groundcovers, clover, moss, ornamental grasses, and other plants as an alternative to planting and maintaining a lawn.

August 10 - Super Turf Saturday!  Join us at the Teaching Garden for a talk and demonstration of best practices for fall lawn care.  What’s that Weed?  Let Master Gardener Volunteers help you identify common lawn and garden weeds and introduce you to some of those helpful control tips -- and a few warnings, too.

September 14 - Got Wildlife?  Get tips on handling nuisance critters and encouraging beneficial wildlife species where you live.  From Garden to Table – Want to know proper handling, storage and preparation tips for that garden produce?  Join us at the Teaching Garden for lessons on using your harvest.  *Master Gardener Plant Sale*

October 12 - Curb Appeal – Glorious gardens make your home $hine.  Join us for some tips on sustainable, research-based landscaping techniques.
Master Gardeners’ Favorite Plants – Everybody has a favorite plant.  Let Master Gardeners introduce you to some new and old favorites.

“A Walk Among the Wildflowers”

Take a walk with Master Gardener and wildflower aficionado, Master Gardener, Jeannie Couch as she describes Virginia’s Spring wildflowers along a 1 mile nature trail.  Dress for the weather including comfortable walking shoes.  Jeannie will provide magnifying loops so you can really see the details of the flowers along the way and you will receive handouts with the flowers pictures and names.  No pets please.  Free, but registration requested 703-792-7747 or master_gardener@pwcgov.org

“Wildlife Walk”
May 25th, 2013  
Bristoe Station Battlefield, 9:00 – 11:00 am
Cost: $5 per person
Join outdoor experts, Charles Smith, Harry Glasglow and Jeannie Couch on a guided walk of the battlefield. Learn about the beneficial wildlife especially the birds and butterflies that call this ecosystem home.  Learn to identify the plants that these birds and butterflies need for food and shelter.  Bring binoculars.  The tour departs from the kiosk in the parking lot at Iron Brigade Unit Ave and 10th Alabama Way.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.  No pets please.  Registration requested 703-792-7747 or master_gardener@pwcgov.org
