Poems from the Battlefield

Poems from the Battlefield captures unique aspects of the Civil War in Manassas and Prince William County, Virginia. Using persona, metaphor, photos and quotes, Gotthardt brings readers from contemporary park experiences back to the days of the Civil War, offering multiple perspectives and rare insight. Gotthardt does not seek to relay details of history or battles. Rather, she offers a collection of powerful impressions, images, and emotion, as well as obvious bewilderment at how easily we invite our own destruction.

Looking for a Publisher

Okay, so I got the book out. This is great, and thanks to everyone who has already ordered! You have a limited, valuable first edition.

Now I am looking for an external publisher to take over the details. Why? Because first, I am paying for printing which means I only make $2.00 per book. My overhead is high.

Now, I'm hardly doing this for the money (poets can't be that vain), but it would be nice to get someone to market this for more than it takes to produce. Since I've not sold off my copyright, I'm still free to do as I wish.

My ultimate plan is to get this book into battlefield visitors' centers and up the price just a little so I can donate some back to the parks. Right now, I wouldn't be able to do that.

So if anyone out there knows of a publisher that might be interested in this project, I would greatly appreciate an email to Katherine.Gotthardt@gmail.com.

I also plan to query a few publishers, but if you've ever done this kind of thing (which I have), you know how grueling it is. I have enough grueling already without having to add to it.

Publishers can also take a look at my "storefront" to access the samples: http://stores.lulu.com/kgotthardt

I am so happy I got this book out. It's like closure in one sense, but in another, it's a peaceful opening--which makes good book sense.
